Irish 28mm Wargames

The Jadotville project continues with some additional vehicles.  The Bedford Mk. Bofors 40mm Anti Aircraft gun with Irish crew.  The two seated crew are not wearing theit tunics to give the impression that they have manned the weapon in haste.  John Murphy sculpted the two figures when I told him my idea, and that then lead to John sculpting additional figures to represent the Irish Army in 1940.  Army and Marine Service officer and ratings. The figure in the back is carrying a Thompson smg, and the other two are firing 303 rifles. Bren Gun Carrier and two cavalry troopers (one armed with a Lewis gun). Officer and two privates (one armed with a Lewis gun, as there were a shortage of Bren guns initially during the Emergency).

 The  Jadotville Project In 2019, I decided to start planning for a 28mm scenario based on actual events in 1961, at Jadotville in the Congo.  I asked John Murphy from Dublin Ireland to sculpt a set of Irish Army figures for the project, and John started with some sketches. I created a 50 man company that included 60mm mortars and Vickers machine guns to represent the Irish UN forces.     5 figures for the Land Rovers that will serve as UN or mercenaries.

Operation Green The Soviet Airborne Invasion of Ireland June 1982 In the summer of 1982, Soviet Airborne troops or VDV (Vozdushno-Desantnye Voyska) land in large numbers north and south of Dublin, at Cobh in County Cork, and at Shannon Airport.   One force of Soviet Paratroopers has moved from Shannon Airport and their objective is to seize a bridge at Bunratty on the N 18.   Soviet forces are to seize the bridge and cut the road stopping Irish forces (based in Limerick) from retaking Shannon.   As the Soviets approach they discover that the Irish hold the bridge.   The Soviets have to take the position with 12 turns to declare victory.   The Irish force are to deny the Soviets’ their objectives.  Rules are Force on Force: "Cold War Gone Hot." Men of the South

County Cork, Ireland: 1921 We played this scenario 6-7 years ago, and we used a friend's rule set.  Background: It is 5 months after the Kilmichael Ambush (November 28, 1920), and although the British Government has increased the number of Crown Forces in County Cork and declared martial law, the West Cork Brigade of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) is still causing chaos, and the Royal Irish Constabulary's (RIC) Auxiliary (Auxies) Divison and the Black and Tans are frustrated with their failure to engage their enemy in the open.  Commandant Tom Barry is leading the Flying Column and gets word that the Crown Forces are concentrating patrols on the Bandon - Cross Barry -Cork road.  Barry plans another ambush, but is unsure of his opposition . . . . The Flying Column hid in the fields and hills and waited patiently, as a Heavy British Army patrol passes on its way to Cross Barry.  Commandant Barry knew he did not have the means to knock out a...
